Knitting is so cool

A New Knitter
I had no idea how cool it would be to teach someone to knit. I have seen people being taught to knit before (by my mom) but it doesn't really compare to actually seeing someone do something that you taught them how to do. This someone is Vita, an exchange student from Indonesia who's being hosted by my good friendMindyand her family. And even though Mindy taught Vita how to knit the normal way (instead of the weird, very uncommon (so uncommon, I've never met anyone who knits like me) my mom taught me to knit) a few minutes later, I taught her first, so it was still really cool. The best part? She was really good at it, I showed her two or three stitches and off she went. Her stitches were even and beautiful, even though she was using a fuzzy yarn. I suppose she is just one of those people who has the natural aptitude for it, kind of like my mom.
New Knitting
RippingThe reason I was teaching people (yes, I taught more than one person!) how to knit was because I was at a con, a gathering of various youth groups at my church (FUSS) and I taught a knitting/spinning class with one of our group's advisors (she took care of the spinning). It was really fun. I was surprised at how many teenagers were interested in knitting and spinning.
But not all was well in knitting-land. Mindy, a first time sock-knitter, was picking up her sock after a long period of time and unfortunately (stupidly?), the sock she had chosen to knit had a difficult pattern. Kay and I tried to convince her to save it, but after she saw how easy it was to knit a sock without a patter (like I had) she ripped out the entire thing and started over.
And of course, I ad my own knitting that I was working on.
The socks that wouldn't die
These socks, the socks that would not die. Honestly, I was pretty tired this weekend (due to total lack of sleep) and even though I felt so done with these socks, I guess they weren't done with me. I finally finished them on Sunday morning however, even though I had to fudge the toe a little bit and I haven't (or rather, mom hasn't) grafted the toe yet, so someone will take care of that later, as for me, I need a little break from socks.
